Gift or Bribe?

Where do you draw the line in terms of something as a bribe or a friendly thank you gift?  But aren't all gifts a bribe in some way?  For instance, a friend is usually a douchebag so you decide to shower the DB with a nice gift and in return the DB would be a little less of a DB to you right?  A gift is an incentive much like a bribe.  Of course you could always just take the gift and the bribe and still be jerk because that's what DBs do.
