The iPhone 3G S Is Not Worth the Subscription

There is no good reason to sign up for a 2 year subscription for either of the iPhone 3G S because you will end up paying more for the phone than buying it off the market from someone else.  The reason is because you are forced to purchase the iPhone data plan in order to purchase the iPhone at the so called discounted price.  The iPhone data plan is basically charging you full price for a data plan which is $30 so there goes your so called savings because $30 x 24 is $720 plus either $199 or $299 for whichever phone you want.  But it doesn't end there, you must have unlimited texting too so that's an added $30 a month!  Additional lines are $39.99 which is basically $9.99 plus $30 data.  Still think it's worth it?

Here's my solution, buy whatever phone you want at a discounted price and then sell it.  You can buy one for $50 or so with contract and sale it for $200 to $300.  Now that you're up $200 to $300, you can go on Ebay and get yourself the iPhone 3G S for around $525 to $650 for the 16g and $625 to $770 for the 32g, which means you still cough up about the same amount.  With your contract at AT&T, with unlimited family texting for $30, you can add unlimited data for $10 per line and each additional line is $9.99.  So that is $20 less per line than the data plan for the iPhone but works the same!  So over the long run, you end up spending $480 per line.  Which one sounds better eh?
